Poster against the establishment of the hemicycle for the European Parliament on Kirchberg

In the mid-1970s, an architectural project gave rise to violent controversy. Designed by French architect Roger Taillibert(*1926), it involved the construction of the Centre 300, a hemicycle intended to house the European Parliament. The building was soon mockingly referred to as the “Kueb”(raven). The aim of this audacious structure was to consolidate the position of Luxembourg as the seat of the European Communities. Bowing to public pressure, the government significantly reduced the initial dimensions of the project.
