For the centennial of the country’s independence in 1939, Villeroy & Boch produced small plaques with the portrait of Grand Duchess Charlotte in relief, accompanied by various patriotic words. As many other tokens from that period, these objects show the determination to affirm Luxembourg against the growing threat from its German neighbour.
