The municipal rubbish bin was ìnvented and introduced in 1883 by Eugène Poubelle in Paris. In his decree, the Prefect Poubelle, who was ahead of his time, provided already for sorting waste in three categories (compost (organic matter), paper and bottles, faience and oyster shells), an idea that had to wait a century to take hold. The ash bucket shown here was used in Luxembourg in the 1930.
