The “Schueberfouer”, founded as a trade fair in 1340 by John the Blind, evolved in the course of the 19th century into a pure amusement fair, which today is one of the most important in Europe. The exhibition presents the history of showmanship and the technical changes in the rides, illustrated by nostalgic carousels, ship swings or roller coaster cars. Historical photos, postcards, posters and film footage provide an insight into the amusements of bygone times. The fair and its special custom of the “Hämmelsmarsch” are part of the national inventory of intangible cultural heritage.
