A new portal to World Heritage
In 1994, the old city and fortress of Luxembourg were declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Subsequently, urban society and the World Heritage site developed together in a dynamic and integrative process.
Many projects testify to the commitment of the City of Luxembourg and the World Heritage Coordination.
On 17 December 2019, on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the inscription of the site "Luxembourg, old districts and fortifications", a UNESCO visitor center opens its doors at the Lëtzebuerg City Museum. Visitors and inhabitants of the city will be able to discover the most important aspects of World Heritage: the origins and importance of the site, its characteristics and criteria, its preservation and its integration into urban development. The presentation illustrates not only the historical dimension of the subject, but also its importance for the present and the future.
The Visitor Centre offers a first orientation to discover the urban heritage classified by UNESCO.
