As part of the exhibition " Collectionner, une sacrée mission... ! ", we would like to turn our attention to some examples of reverse painting on glass, commonly known as "fixés sous verre". This difficult and meticulous technique has been known in the West since antiquity. Backglass painting was called a learned art and reached its peak during the Renaissance with the elaborate compositions of Venetian masters. In the 19th and early 20th centuries, the technique spread throughout Europe and became a popular art form in the German and Central European countries, mainly focusing on religious motifs of a votive nature.
