Despite the fact that around half the world's population has, will have or has had a menstrual cycle, menstruation remains a taboo subject. That's why manifestos, commitments to combat menstrual insecurity and the development of new products have recently been proliferating around the world. In Luxembourg, too, this universal theme is being addressed more and more often, whether you think of the petition for menstrual leave in 2021 or the free distribution of sanitary products in public toilets. Through museum objects, interviews, music, film and art, the exhibition unfolds the discourses and debates of recent decades, traces the evolution of menstrual products from the late 19th century to the present day, and gives voice to the voices of menstruating people.
The exhibition was designed by the Museum Europäischer Kulturen (MEK) in Berlin and adapted for the Luxembourg context by the Lëtzebuerg City Museum.
